When I radomly opened channel 13 tonight, the movie "pursuit of happiness" caught my eye. It's another story of pursuing American Dream.

The main charactor Chris was a sales man, trying to sell the scanner to earn a living for the family including his wife and 5 year old son. He worked very hard but still was unable to make ends meet. His goal is to sell one scanner a day. But each day has a disappointing end. One day, he saw the happy faces of all the stock brokers coming out of the building, and decided to be one of them too. He was told he doesn't need a college degree. All he need is just being good at numbers and being good at people. So he went to apply for an internship of stock broker. He chased down the hiring manager trying to make his acquaintnence and get an opportunity for an interview. But the chance seems very dim until one day he ran into the manager again, rode the taxi with him, and impressed him with the magic cube. HE finally got the interview. But on the days before his interview, his wife left him. Even worse, just the day before the interview, while he was painting his  rented room, he was arrested for not able to pay his parking tickets and spend a night in the jail. The next morning, when he was freed, he rushed to the interview place, and walked into the office with his dirty clothes and faces. He impressed the interviewers again with his honesty and wittyness. He got the internship. But that means an even harder time were waiting for him, because the internship has no salary. God knows how hard life has been for him. He has to go selling the scanner each day after work, and he wasn't always able to sell it. when he finally ran out of money, and has no place to go, he even had to spend a night with his son in a bathroom at the subway. Once he had to sell his blood.  Later, he found out that there's a shelter place for the homeless but he has to be there before 5 to beat the long line. In order to do a good job at internship while getting the shelter for the night, he paid double effort by calling the potential clients one after another without hanging up the phone once, and not drinking any water to avoid waisting time to go to restroom. Finally 6 months of internship passed. The last day, when he walked into the office again and was told that he got the job, he was all tears! His hard work finally paid off...

Years later, he became a successful stock broker and owned his own firm. One of his stock broke deal was multi-million dollars...

Quote from the movie:"Don’t ever let somebody tell you…you can’t do something. You got a dream..you gotta protect it. People can’t do something themselves..they wanna tell you,you can’t do it. IF YOU WANT SOMETHING GO GET IT."
