RE: 《BeBeyond Alumni友情在线问答》:芝加哥商学院 host by Qiqi
It is not a very typical day in Chicago GSB but reflects some of its elements.
7:30 morning, having breadfast with Credit Suisse Asia to resume the networking started last night. Generally banks in Asia just visit very few cities in U.S, but they all drop by GSB. In HK, GSB and Wharton have the largest alumni in banking and other financial service industries. And the tradition continues. (Think over what it means for you upon graduation as well as in 10 years upon graduation)
8:30 Accounting and Financial Statement Analysis I, I just audit that class. (to pull down the average tuition...) The flexible curriculum in GSB allows me to tailor my own studies here. In this class, we starts directly from some headlines on today's Wall Street Journal. Accounting is so interesting here.
11:45 Too many choices for lunch time. Banks and consulting firms will host some "lunch and learn" to talk some hot topics in their work. But I chose to attend a session by 2nd year students. They shared their experience about recruiting for internship last year, directly and detailed. In GSB, it is a tradition: 2nd year helps you everything from resume to mock-interview. Hand in hand: that's GSB.
1:30 Microeconomics. Wow!! The toughest time comes!! That's Chicago School and you are pushed a lot. But it is exciting to find that nearly all those familiar Theories and Fomulas were created here. The professors talked all the anecdote of those great Theories and people laughed. Humor is embeded in every chicagoan!
6:00 Goldman's Global President, GSB 82' alum, came to deliver his speech. It is much easier to be close to these guys in GSB. Only over a month, but the list is long: McKinsey Global CEO/Credit Suisse Global CEO/Carlyle Founder, not to mention all other CFO/COO/....
9:00 Head back to Regents, an apartment by the Lake of Michigan. (in the day, leaning against the armchair and enjoys the lakes/sails/parks right below) Nearly all Chinese students live there and we have a big family there. (probably the highest percentage of top schools). That make difference! you will feel it very strong as soon as you land here. Furthermore, you could find a big Chinese community in the university too: law schools, medical schools and undergrads.
10:30 Texas Holding! Gambling's kinda tradition in Chinese students here. (u gotta figure out how to win by fundemental principles) Last year, they flied to Las Vegas for a tournament. Royal Flush....Chicago Dream!
I may have tilted over to the finance (limited by my background) but the school is more than that.Feel free to ask challenging questions, that's GSB style! |
