Dear all,

Many of you must have met Dick(Qiqi) while he was still in Shanghai. He is  one of our former teammates and now studying at Chicago. He is willing to help our current teammates with questions related to Chicago.

So, I suggest that Dick help answer questions about Chicago here at the forum. For the general questions, he will answer here, and for the private questions, especially for those who are applying to Chicago, Dick can give additional help either though phone or email or through us. So, let's filter out the general questions here first at the forum.

You can get his email address or even phone number later from JuanJuan, Wei, and/or me.

Thanks to Dick!

So, guys, just ask your questions about Chicago by replying to this message.

However, do more research before we trouble the busy guy with basic questions. Let's be considerate as well.

Jinbo

RE: Help from Chicago BeBeyond Alumni

Hi, Dick,

How are you, this is Juan Juan. Many of my trainees are long for Chicago GSB, but this year GSB sets a very high requirement for TOEFL, which 104 for IBT, especially 26 for Speaking. They are wondering how will a TOEFL score a little bit below 104, epscially a 20-25 Speaking influence their chance of admission? And Chicago pays such high attention on TOEFL score ?  Thank you very much!

RE: Help from Chicago BeBeyond Alumni

Hi, thank you for your interest in GSB. I have no idea about how that will impact this year's application but can help to contact some admission officer. Hopefully I could get back to it soon.

RE: Help from Chicago BeBeyond Alumni

I got an answer from the director of GSB full time admission. "Given how competitive the process is these score guidelines are there for a reason and not meeting the minimum is not going to put applicants in the best position to be successful. "

So anyone has a low IBT score is encouraged to retake it. Actually, English will make your experience in MBA different and an edge for you in recruiting. So please work hard on it.

RE: Help from Chicago BeBeyond Alumni

Thank you very much qiqi. I think 26 of speaking is a pretty high requirement for many of Chinese applicants. Will GSB also concider that a bit?

I think so as I mentioned that in the enquiring letter together with the IBT.

Hi,
I want an information urgently for an applicant. Can you help to find out if there has been any precedent in your B-school to admit a person with only 专科 degree from a three years education?

Anna, it's really difficult for me to figure out your question. To my knowledge, there is no students of that background in my batch and the batch of second year. I did a search on our directory but did not find any. What I have done is by no means complete, so you'd better consult Jinbo or other sources. And you could also write to the admission office to clarify their policy.

RE: 《BeBeyond Alumni友情在线问答》:芝加哥商学院 host by Qiqi

It is not a very typical day in Chicago GSB but reflects some of its elements.

7:30 morning, having breadfast with Credit Suisse Asia to resume the networking started last night. Generally banks in Asia just visit very few cities in U.S, but they all drop by GSB. In HK, GSB and Wharton have the largest alumni in banking and other financial service industries. And the tradition continues. (Think over what it means for you upon graduation as well as in 10 years upon graduation)

8:30 Accounting and Financial Statement Analysis I, I just audit that class. (to pull down the average tuition...) The flexible curriculum in GSB allows me to tailor my own studies here. In this class, we starts directly from some headlines on today's Wall Street Journal. Accounting is so interesting here.

11:45 Too many choices for lunch time. Banks and consulting firms will host some "lunch and learn" to talk some hot topics in their work. But I chose to attend a session by 2nd year students. They shared their experience about recruiting for internship last year, directly and detailed. In GSB, it is a tradition: 2nd year helps you everything from resume to mock-interview. Hand in hand: that's GSB.

1:30 Microeconomics. Wow!! The toughest time comes!! That's Chicago School and you are pushed a lot. But it is exciting to find that nearly all those familiar Theories and Fomulas were created here. The professors talked all the anecdote of those great Theories and people laughed. Humor is embeded in every chicagoan!

6:00 Goldman's Global President, GSB 82' alum, came to deliver his speech. It is much easier to be close to these guys in GSB. Only over a month, but the list is long: McKinsey Global CEO/Credit Suisse Global CEO/Carlyle Founder, not to mention all other CFO/COO/....

9:00 Head back to Regents, an apartment by the Lake of Michigan. (in the day, leaning against the armchair and enjoys the lakes/sails/parks right below) Nearly all Chinese students live there and we have a big family there. (probably the highest percentage of top schools). That make difference! you will feel it very strong as soon as you land here. Furthermore, you could find a big Chinese community in the university too: law schools, medical schools and undergrads.

10:30 Texas Holding! Gambling's kinda tradition in Chinese students here. (u gotta figure out how to win by fundemental principles) Last year, they flied to Las Vegas for a tournament. Royal Flush....Chicago Dream!

I may have tilted over to the finance (limited by my background) but the school is more than that.Feel free to ask challenging questions, that's GSB style!
